A letter from our 2020 Service Chair:

Every Thursday night the men of One Army conclude the general membership meeting with our mission statement, which ends with “serving the campus and community, and promoting unity in Aggieland.” Selfless Service is a core value of Texas A&M, and has been one of the three pillars of this organization since our conception in 1999. We are thankful for the opportunity to serve impactful organizations in the Bryan-College Station area such as Twin City Missions, Brazos Valley Food Bank, The Big Event, and our philanthropy, Still Creek Ranch.

Service takes a different form in the hands of each individual and organization. Throughout our organization’s history, we have had members serve by organizing relief efforts after devastating hurricanes, coordinating the historic Red, White, & Blue-out at the Texas A&M Football game following the 9/11 attacks, starting non-profits to provide for needs in the community, and partnering with other student organizations to support other philanthropic activities. This year, I am excited for One Army to explore unconventional ways to serve our campus and community in the midst of a global pandemic.

This semester will mark the 4th year of our mentorship program with Still Creek Ranch. Each mentor is paired with one male middle school or high school resident of the ranch, and is given the opportunity to guide their mentee through school, friendships, and day-to-day life by sharing their own lived experiences. Building a relationship with my mentee Steven has been one of the greatest experiences during my time in One Army - I encourage anyone interested in the program to reach out to myself or members to learn more.

When speaking of service at Texas A&M, Former U.S. President George H.W. Bush said “A&M encourages volunteerism, encourages being one of a thousand points of light, helping others ... and it comes naturally to Aggies.” As Aggies, the men of One Army bleed service just as much as we bleed maroon. Although our priority throughout the year is Still Creek Ranch, we encourage members to share their passion for any particular mission or organization so that we can support and serve alongside one another.

Please, if you have any questions or service opportunities for One Army, contact me at the email below.

Sincerely,
